After careful consideration, the RGD Communications Committee has selected Toronto-based designer Derwyn Goodall RGD of Goodall Integrated Design to design the RGD Certification Sticker for 2016. The Sticker will be distributed to certified RGD Members across Canada to be added to their RGD Certificates and Membership cards, representing another year of commitment to professional standards, ethical conduct and industry best practices.
About Derwyn Goodall
I am an accredited Graphic Designer (RGD) with 30 years of high-profile design and branding experience and a Design Educator with 15 years of teaching experience at two post-secondary, degree-granting institutions. I graduated from York University in 1983 with a BFA, Specialized Honours in Visual Communication Design.
Goodall Integrated Design is a brand and marketing firm that infuses every collaboration with insightful strategy, powerful creative thinking and dedicated client service. My integrated approach enables clients to build business while building their brands. I have worked extensively with many of Canada’s most noted organizations: Ministry of Education, Maximum Films, Onex Corporation, Lifesaving Society of Canada, Canadian Heritage, Hydro One and Canada Post as well as others in the technology, financial, arts & culture, manufacturing and legal sectors.
I am also an Associate Professor at OCAD University. Areas of teaching expertise include complex typographic systems, creative design thinking, visual identity and brand program development, art direction, curriculum development and critical pedagogy.
In 1998, I was asked by the GDC to contribute my expertise in the creation of the RGD (Registered Graphic Designers) accreditation exam, which is seen today as the benchmark for professional standards and ethics in the graphic design industry.
"The Committee was thrilled with the number of members who showed interest in designing the new RGD Membership Sticker for 2016," says VP of Communications Bob Hambly. "RGD is built on the contribution of its members and we appreciate all of the ways in which they participate and give back to our profession."
As the 2016 Sticker designer, Derwyn receives 3 free registrations to attend DesignThinkers (valued at approx. $1,500 - can be used at 3 consecutive conferences or in one year), in addition to the exposure of having his work represent the Association to RGD Members and the design community.
"I became an RGD because I believe the organization addresses many of the challenges graphic designers face head on. Their untiring focus on advocacy, particularly spec work, the promotion of professional standards, education and information sharing as well as a belief in community are all extremely relevant and meaningful to me as a design professional and as a design educator." - Derwyn Goodall RGD
This initiative began in 2013 with a design from Mondor Design Associates in Kitchener, followed by the 2014 design from Jim Ryce Design & Direction in Toronto and the 2015 design from Design de Plume in Sudbury.
We would also like to acknowledge other past Design Sponsors who have assisted RGD by providing similar pro bono design services.
