AODA Compliance Report required from businesses of 20 or more by Dec 31, 2014

Before the end of 2014, all businesses and non-profit organizations with 20 or more employees in Ontario must meet the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) 2005, and file an online compliance report. 


Ontario has standards to help ensure organizations are accessible to people with disabilities. Ontario’s Accessibility Standard for Customer Service came into effect in 2012; all businesses and non-profits with one or more employees were required to comply.


Since then, additional requirements have come into effect. This year’s online compliance report will cover these requirements. The requirements differ depending on how many employees work within an organization.

Organizations with 50+ Employees

The requirements covered by this year’s report should have been met by January 1, 2014. Organizations with 50+ employees must report that they:

Organizations with 20-49 Employees

There are no new requirements this year for organizations with 20-49 employees, however you are required to report on compliance with the customer service standard. You also have the same two emergency-related requirements outlined above, which had to be met by 2012, although you are not required to report on them.


Organizations with 1-19 Employees

These organizations are not required to file an AODA compliance report, but must still comply with some requirements.

Filing an AODA compliance report can be done online, through your account. Deadline and penalties

AODA compliance reports are due by the end of the year. Failing to file your report can result in enforcement action including financial penalties.
