Anthony is the founder and principal designer at Furia; a branding and design firm in Toronto, Canada. His career has spanned 15 years, three continents, and a diverse range of design disciplines. Anthony’s work has featured in prominent print and online design publications and has been recognized by national and international design awards.

Q: How long have you been volunteering with RGD, and in what capacity?
I think about about 3-4 years now. I currently serve on the RGD Programs Committee, participate as a mentor in the RGD Mentorship Program and contribute to the portfolio review portion of the RGD Certification Process. In the past I have led teams at Designathon, participated in roundtable discussions and speed mentoring at RGD events, helped with student portfolio review days at Toronto colleges, written book reviews for the RGD Book Club and have also co-presented a speaking engagement and webinar.

Q: What made you want to get involved with RGD?

I shared RGD’s values of continuous education for professional development and the upholding of a high standard of practice, two things I believe essential not only to the success of any designer, but to the reputation and respect of our industry as a whole. I was also interested in meeting my fellow design community, which has turned out to be the best part of all.

Q: Of the RGD initiatives you have contributed to, what are you most proud of?

Probably the work done by the teams I’ve led at Designathon events. It’s challenging to produce a high calibre of work over the course of a one-day design sprint. Seeing the teams pull together to get everything done in time for all the great causes involved was a rewarding experience.

Q: What is your most memorable experience as an RGD volunteer?

I was asked to present a talk with some fellow RGDs at the Creative Directions conference for emerging designers, which was my first public speaking engagement. Sharing my career experiences in front of an auditorium full of people is something I don’t think I’ll forget anytime soon.

Q: What have you gained from being an RGD volunteer, and why would you recommend it to other members who might be thinking of getting involved?

I have gained a lot. I have learned more about my profession and industry in the few years I’ve been volunteering with RGD than I had in the previous decade. So yes, I would recommend it.
