Certified RGD designs first-ever coin shaped like Canada

Certified RGD Alisha Giroux has designed Canada's first-ever coin shaped like the country itself.

"The design used on the silver coin was one that I created for myself a few years ago – a marriage between my love of hidden imagery, and my experience as a graphic designer," says Alisha. "It was originally a full colour illustration, then a two-colour letterpress print created for the Canada 150."

About a year ago, The Canadian Mint reached out to Alisha and asked if she was interested in adapting the design onto a limited edition Canada-shaped coin. "As I was looking to retire the design anyways," Alisha adds, "this was an amazing sendoff!".

So what does it feel like to design a one-of-a-kind coin? "Personally, the entire experience has been a bit surreal," says Alisha. "To have something designed for fun now be given a new life as a minted collectable is very special, and I'm going to cherish the experience for some time." Released earlier this month, the limited edition coin retails for $340.00 CAD.
