Members create Outstanding Projects for 9 Non-profits in RGD's first Virtual Designathon

From Oct 22 to Oct 24, 2021, 30 emerging designers and 11 seasoned design professionals gathered virtually to participate in the RGD's first Virtual Designathon, our 7th to date.

 

At RGD Designathons, design students and recent grads, led by senior professionals, work on real-life design projects for non-profit organizations. This event is an opportunity for participants to connect, network and get real-world experience while using their expertise to contribute to a meaningful cause.

 

Below are the projects created by our 9 Virtual 2021 Designathon teams:

 

Community Futures Ontario

Team: Somy Hosseinzadeh, Annie Jong, Andres Ramirez Provisional RGD
Mentor: Amanda Boltë RGD, Creative Director, Boltë Brand + Design
Brief: Design social media assets to ​​reflect diversity in the organization’s marketing efforts to make all feel welcomed.

Eva's Initiatives for Homeless Youth

Team: Pantea Kouhpayeh Student RGD, Deanna Lennox Provisional RGD
Mentor: Alessandra Cardone RGD, Founder & Creative Lead at ale|ca design and Amy Janzen RGD, Graphic Designer at Mercatus Technologies Inc.
Brief: Update brand guidelines to make them diverse, inclusive and equitable.

Fondation Michaëlle Jean Foundation 

Team: Marissa Bender, Natasha D'Costa Provisional RGD, Jeyla Khankishieva Student RGD
Mentors: Meggan van Harten RGD, Partner & Strategic Leader at Design de Plume and Jennica Robinson Provisional RGD, Senior Graphic Designer at at Design de Plume
Brief: Design a digital presentation ​​to launch the organization’s entrepreneurship program directed at young creatives (artists, cultural and creative workers) who are currently out of the academic system.

Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region

Brief: Design a new wrap for their box truck to promote donations to their social enterprise ReStore.

Arts Etobicoke

Team: Kendra Legault Student RGD, Julian Mutis, Anika Sultana
Mentor: John Furneaux RGD, Principal at B3 Strategy and Rory Kelly RGD, Freelance Senior Art Director & Designer 
Brief: Design a branding suite for their 50th Anniversary reflecting diversity and content that can be repurposed.

The Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund

Team: Maisha Chowdhury Student RGD, Katie Doyle Provisional RGD, Samantha Pitt Student RGD, Mathieu Swaby Student RGD
Mentor: Raymond Cheah RGD, ​​Creative Director at CIFAR and Robin Miller RGD, Branding Specialist & Senior Graphic Designer
Brief: Design a social media campaign to be used during the holiday season to encourage middle-aged Canadians to donate.

Canadian Blood Services

Team: Laura Beaudin, Nhi Dam, Madiha Jan Student RGD, Sherie Welsford Provisional RGD
Mentor: Ashlea Spitz RGD, Educator & Creative Director at Pixsoul Media Inc.
Brief: Design GIFs for their NextGen Youth Engagement portal and social media with an aim to target first time donors and a younger audience.

High Park Nature Centre 

Team: Enkhmaa Sandagdorj, David Ho Sang Provisional RGD, Lesli Ransom Student RGD
Mentor: Elyssa Schmid RGD, Design Director at Schmid Grafikdesign
Brief: Design graphics to add to HPNC’s brand package to be used to promote their programming via the website, emails, newsletter, social media, posters, brochures and business cards.

Open North 

Team: Takwah Ahmad Student RGD, Olga Overchik, Lauren Swant Student RGD

Mentor: Niël Havermann RGD, Senior Digital Experience Designer at Forge Media + Design

Brief: Suggest a new colour scheme for their branding to reflect inclusion, collaboration, openness and design a presentation for their target audience of municipalities.
