RGD Committees assist in the development and execution of RGD programs, events and initiatives based on strategic goals established by the Board for the Membership. The Committees offer Members opportunities to give back, make connections with designers across Canada, develop new skills and grow professionally. Those interested are invited to apply here

Each Committee is made up of up to 20 Members from across Canada and is led by two RGD Board Members who act as Chair and Vice Chair. Committee Members are asked to attend one 60 to 90-minute virtual meeting each month and contribute 2-4 hours per week to Committee on RGD-related initiatives usually delegated through sub-committees.

If you are interested in joining any of the following Committees, complete this application form. You will then be matched up with a Committee or put on a waiting list for when an opportunity becomes available. If you have any questions, email RGD's Executive Director, Hilary Ashworth, at . Or contact any of our Committee Chairs through the RGD Member Slack Community.

Certification Committee

"We work to continually update, improve and make the Certification Process the best it can be. We are the point of entry to designers interested in officially joining the RGD community, so not only do we get to create that first impression, but we also are involved in reviewing the amazing work across Canada and around the world that is submitted by Certification candidates. It's incredible to see the diversity of design that's out there and know that the  RGD is a hub for these brilliant minds to connect. It's also reflected in the Members on our Committee, so please join!" says Victor Szeto RGD, Chair, Certification Committee

Diversity & Inclusion Committee

"Our Committee ensures that equity and respect is reflected in the RGD’s operations and programming. In the past year, we advised updates to the RGD Directory for Members to self-identify on their profiles, developed the Speaker Guidelines, introduced an award to support students from underrepresented communities and launched the #OpenDialogue campaign to encourage conversations about issues that matter to the design community. We’re a group of passionate designers, who, through this committee, are working to make our industry a place that provides equal opportunity to all. If you think you can help us make a difference, please join!" — Jennifer Taback RGD, Chair, Diversity and Inclusion Committee

Education Committee

"Over the past year, we have focused on exciting and important initiatives to provide awareness, knowledge, support and community connections for design students and educators alike. These initiatives include webinars, awards (for studentsemerging designers and design educators), student engagement and resource building and our Designathons. Our Committee is a diverse group of design educators and professionals. If you are interested in the education side of our design industry, we would love to have you a part of our Committee." — Faron Dawe RGD, Chair, Education Committee

Events Committee

"Even though the pandemic has forced us to cancel in-person events, it has been a great time for our Committee to rethink programming and craft new experiences for our Members. Moving conferences to online platforms, upping our webinar game and experimenting with small virtual socials have all been part of our work this past year. During a time of isolation, creating opportunity for connection became so important. If you’re interested in building community and creating meaningful experiences for designers, I encourage you to join us!" — Kathleen Scott RGD, Chair, Events Committee

Membership Committee

"The goal of our Committee is to ensure that the RGD experience is a valuable one for all Members. We regularly review policies, programs and resources, looking for ways to improve and fill gaps in our offerings. Last year we developed a program to help members struggling to afford dues during a time of uncertainty. This year we are working to reinvent some favourite RGD programs as well as develop new ones. Collaboration is a key part of being on a committee, working together to achieve our goals and supporting one another along the way. If you're interested in building connections and making new friendships, please join us!" — Elyse Maxwell RGD, Chair, Membership Committee
