Why is this role important?

Under the supervision of the Team Lead, Creative, the Creative Designer is responsible for developing and executing creative design and formatting solutions across multiple channels within CIHI. In collaboration with the creative team, the Creative Designer executes and delivers effective, high-quality and accessible products including reports, charts, figures, presentations, infographics, data visualizations, and social media and digital assets, while ensuring visual consistency and adherence to CIHI branding.


What you'll do

  • Provides advanced layout, formatting and design options for all corporate digital and print products, in both official languages.
  • Collaborates with Creative Team on visual direction and guidance to CIHI staff on design, digital product esthetics, branding, layout, typography and use of colour.
  • Researches, develops, recommends and creates new artwork for CIHI products
  • Participates in brainstorming sessions to find design solutions for CIHI products and internal needs.
  • Supports the testing of digital and print publications to ensure they meet CIHI’s quality standards, including consistent application of brand assets based on visual brand guidelines.
  • Maintains knowledge of current industry design standards and best practices; Anticipates trends and provides recommendations to CIHI clients. Provides technical/design advice for products, as required.
  • Supports other areas of the business by providing recommendations on CIHI branding, design approaches and layout in alignment with organizational standards.
  • Provides quality assurance for all creative design solutions and products.
  • Ensures that all creative visuals and documents posted on CIHI’s website and social media channels are high quality and meet accessibility requirements.
  • Support the development and maintenance of printing specifications by providing input to print coordinator.


What you'll bring to the table

  • College diploma in graphic design or related field
  • 3 to 5 years related experience in a production environment
  • Exceptional creativity and innovation skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Strong knowledge of the principles of design and visual communication
  • Strong knowledge in Adobe InDesign CC, Photoshop CC, Adobe Illustrator CC and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with SVG graphics for mobile
  • Good understanding of UI and UX principles and practices
  • Good understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and requirements under the Accessibility for Ontarians With Disabilities Act (AODA)
  • Strong team skills, both within department and with project teams combined with the ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including listening skill
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities to meet deadline
  • Knowledge of print and pre-press processes
  • Fluency in both official languages is an asset
