Company description
Outcrop is a northern-owned communications agency with roots in each of Canada’s three territories. We specialize in compelling messages that meet the needs of our clients. It all began more than 50 years ago in Yellowknife starting with two owners and one big idea. Fast-forward to present day and Outcrop's Yellowknife office now boasts a team of 25 marketing and communication experts. We're large enough to handle your biggest projects, but small enough that you'll get the attention you and your business deserve.
Motivated, inventive, dedicated and fun. These words are what Outcrop Yukon is all about. In the Yukon since 2004 the Whitehorse office re-launched in the fall of 2016 and its new team is committed to providing clients superior customer service and communications products. Our staff has expertise in communications planning, writing and editing, web development, event management, and design – not to mention years of experience North of 60. Together, and with our associates and co-workers across the North, Outcrop Yukon delivers its clients the communications products they need to meet their goals.
The doors to Outcrop Nunavut’s office officially opened in 2003 - but our arrival in the Eastern Arctic happened a decade earlier when we established an office in Rankin Inlet (later moved to Iqaluit after the establishment of a new territory). Outcrop Nunavut has a committed team of five people with expertise in graphic design, marketing, public relations, communications, event management and much more. And because we all live and work right in Iqaluit, we’re always ready to answer your questions and talk business, whether in the office or in the bread aisle at the Northern store.
Why am I an RGD?
I strive to demonstrate in clear terms the sum of my experience and skill to prospective clients or employers. Clear communication and credentials are essential tools in demonstrating the broader picture of my abilities and skills.I'm a member, because I want to show and reflect the knowledge and skill that Indigenous creatives have. To show the next generation of emerging creatives that BIPOC and Indigenous creatives are successful and are breaking trail for them to follow and to succeed.
What is my most memorable RGD moment?
The RGD DesignThinkers conference in Vancouver was one of the best conferences I've attended. The invited speakers and talent was outstanding and inspirational. I also loved the many side conversations with other creatives in attendance. If you want to be inspired, attend a DesignThinkers conference either in Vancouver or Toronto.
Why am I a designer?
I am at the intersection of illustration and technology. I have always had a fascination with both and wanted a career that included both. Why should you hire me?
I have over 30-years of graphic design experience. As a passionate graphic designer I embrace my creative instincts and intuition, I have a burning desire to cultivate flawless outcomes in branding, photography, and web design. I am Anishinaabe and am an enrolled member of the Little Grand Rapids First Nation. I live and work on Kwanlin Dün and Ta'an Kwäch'än Council Territories in Whitehorse, Yukon.Mark is an RGD member and is also CGD Certified and the Past-National President of the Design Professionals of Canada (formerly the Graphic Designers of Canada).
Where do I see myself in 5 years?
I see myself continuing to learn new skills and endeavour to be a mentor to emerging Indigenous designers in Canada's north. Yukon, NWT and Nunavut.Contributions to RGD
