2017 Judges
  • Jordan is a graduate of the School of Design at George Brown College in Toronto, where he specialized in corporate identity. He began his professional career in Bermuda, and spent many years as a Toronto-based freelancer. It was while working as a freelancer that he created the branding and corporate identity for a small, family-run brewery named Beau's All Natural Brewing Company. He has since been brought in-house at Beau's as the Creative Director, and leads the brewery's marketing and creative teams. The brewery's creative team has received awards for their package design from Applied Arts Magazine, How Magazine, as well as multiple medals in Mondial de la Biére's mBeer design competition.
  • Originally from Mexico City, Carolina studied communication design at Anahuac University and then obtained her Bachelor of Design from Emily Carr University. As an entrepreneur, creative director and designer, Carolina has ample experience collaborating with small and large companies developing design and branding strategies, doing creative consulting and leading creative teams. Currently, she is the creative director / design manager at Science World BC. Carolina loves the business side of design and as a lifelong learner she is immersed in adapting to the rapidly evolving design industry. She is also an educator with over 18 years teaching experience, she enjoys sharing her wealth of experience with her students. Carolina is a certified member of the Graphic Designers of Canada where she is the current Education Chair and has held the positions of VP of Media, PR and Events for the BC Chapter. She is also professional member of the AIGA.
  • Stefan is an accredited Ottawa-based Senior Designer (RGD) with more than twenty years of experience in the design and creative industry, including high-profile exhibition design and print. He has been with the National Gallery of Canada as a senior designer since 2003, providing creative leadership to the design and marketing departments. He blends innovation with practicality and an unswerving focus on results. Stefan’s experience is in the visual arts and many aspects of design. He excels at all elements of the creative process and has a multifaceted approach to design. As a professional, he works every day to forge profound links between organizations and their audiences through clear, creative, effective and well-managed designs and strategies. His design work has been recognized both nationally and internationally by A' Design Award, The Alcuin Society, Communication Arts, Design and Design, Redgees and uVU Veritiv.
  • Eric Gagnon

    Design and Branding Creative Direction Manager, METRO Corporate Brands
    Eric has a deeply rooted career in retail, food and travel (METRO and Transat), through in-house and dedicated-to-client studios. He has also worked for Yves Rocher USA, Uniprix, Elle Québec, La Presse. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design at UQAM, then furthered his knowledge of marketing at Université de Montréal. With METRO’s corporate brands since 2007, he oversees branding, design and communication for the ten main, sub or controlled brands, each of them providing a dedicated customer-centric experience. One would say he has eaten his way through every aisle and designed every category, from pizza to wine! Throughout his career, his work has been recognized. He is especially proud of having helped create awareness for METRO's corporate brands portfolio through numerous national and international trade and design awards. But for him, the best reward is to see his designs in the customer’s cart, bridging customers and investors’ satisfaction.
  • Michelle Hopgood RGD

    Lead Graphic Designer, Martin Prosperity Institute (MPI), Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto
    Michelle earned her Bachelors of Design from OCAD University, and her Masters in Information, specializing in Knowledge and Information Management, from the University of Toronto. She is the lead Graphic Designer at the Martin Prosperity Institute (MPI) at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management. At MPI, Michelle focuses on tailoring graphic design to effectively convey information and brand identity. She specializes in the function, perception, and contextualization of visual information by the audience, and creates a visual identity for the Institute through info-graphics, data visualization, and design.
  • Edmund Lam

    Creative Director, Frank + Oak
    Edmund has been working in marketing and communications for over a decade. Prior to joining as Creative Director at Frank + Oak, he spent time at creative agencies Sid Lee, bleublancrouge and CloudRaker heading up brand experiences for Samsung, Cirque du Soleil, Stella Artois, Natrel, Neutrogena, the Toronto International Film Festival and Kijiji. He cares most about making useful things that people actually want to see/watch/read/do/experience. His work has been recognized by the One Show, Tomorrow Awards, Marketing Awards, FWA, Awwwards, Webbys, Créa and Boomerangs.
  • Josh McInerney RGD

    Manager of Design and Creative Services, Ryerson University
    Previously, Josh was creative director and partner at Modu Design where he worked on design projects for BMW, Manulife Financial, The University of Toronto and Cineplex. Josh has spoken on branding, design and creative thinking at the Schulich School of Business, at the RGD Design Thinkers Conference and has been interviewed for the Telus Small Business web series. He is also on the advisory board of NextCanada as well as the Association of Registered Graphic Designers. Josh has been recognized by HOW Magazine, Marketing Magazine (“Great Canadian CreativeFaceoff 2010”), the Web Marketing Awards, and the Retail Advertising and Marketing Awards. When not designing (which rarely happens) he's probably chasing after with his son, burning a perfectly good risotto, or playing a pretty mean harmonica. @mickandernie
  • Christopher Moorehead RGD is a licensed professional engineer and graphic designer specializing in the visualization of complex information streams. Chris currently holds the position of Director, Information Design, at multinational accounting and consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. His team uses information design, data visualization, and structured typography best practices to interpret data, develop focused solutions, and communicate key messages on behalf of corporate, institutional, and government clients. Chris is also a sessional instructor at OCAD University. Outside of design, his interests include boxing, weightlifting, postmodern literature, art history, single malt whisky, and industrial techno. He is a committed supporter of Manchester City FC, but will cheer for any club that beats Chelsea — even Arsenal.
  • Lindsay Robertson

    Creative Services Manager, WestJet
    Lindsay is a design leader with a background in Brand and Identity Management, Visual design and Communications. Lindsay studied Communications at the University of Calgary then pursued Visual Design at the Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD) followed by a two-year stint with Sequential Communications – a consultancy championing brand and identity management and working with organizations out of the United Arab Emirates. Lindsay’s leadership experience ranges from large scale projects, such as custom aircraft livery (aircraft exterior design), to internal cross-organizational cultural initiatives that support both external marketing initiatives and internal cultural programs at WestJet. Most recently Lindsay and team are focused on video and content creation. When Lindsay isn’t working on design projects for WestJet, she is a renovating enthusiast and loves to ski and play soccer.
  • Matthew Rocca RGD

    Lead Designer and Brand Enforcer, Northern Credit Union
    Matthew began working for BMR in 2008, an agency located in Sault Ste. Marie, ON, creating print products for both the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation and the British Columbia Lottery Corporation. After joining Northern Credit Union in 2011, he has become an integral component of the Marketing Department. As Lead Designer and Brand Enforcer, his responsibilities involve creative direction and building brand presence, overseeing over 30 branches across Ontario. Matthew also has the responsibility of strengthening brand pride and trust on an organizational level.
  • Tanja Taylor

    Senior Manager, Creative Services, RBC Global Asset Management
    Since she graduated from the York/Sheridan joint program in graphic design in 2001, Tanja has held a variety of mandates from sole in-house design roles to leading an advertising agency studio. As she moved through those experiences, she realized that her passion lies working client-side, immersing herself in a business and helping a brand evolve from the inside-out. She has developed an expertise working with financial brands in progressively senior roles and most recently joined RBC Global Asset Management in a creative director capacity in 2015. She has built a dynamic studio there and evolved their skill set from print-focused to include digital, video and social. She has an upbeat personality and always brings a positive attitude to work. She balances out her corporate side by being an avid runner, lover of the oudoors, yoga enthusiast, vegetable gardener… a bit of a hippie, really.
