Designing Better: Using the power of design to recreate social systems for the people who need them

Through the presentation of a case study, learn about multiple design methodologies and team skills used in the completion of an intensive, human centred, social services design project.


Designing Better is a project that was launched to redesign how adults experience intensive addictions and mental health services in Waterloo Wellington. The project spans the worlds of systems design, service design, visual communication, human-centred design, research and data visualization.

Lorraine loves taking complex information and creating clear, powerful narratives that make sense. Her skills as a Registered Graphic Designer, combined with her expertise in systems design and organizational behaviour, make her an adept communicator who strives to create genuine impact. Lorraine is passionate about sense making, transformation design and using design as a catalyst for social change.

Lorraine Randell is the Visual Communications Strategist at Overlap, a design thinking consultancy located in the heart of Canada's innovation District in Kitchener.
