Kids Websites: Where Fun and Accessibility Come to Play

When you think of kids' websites, you think of fun. But there's a lot more to consider when it comes to creating engaging content that is accessible by all kids. In this session, we'll go over the unique challenges and techniques for producing an accessible children's site including readability, colour palette and contrast, font usage, videos, widgets, accessible writing and more.

 

About Olena Sullivan

Olena Sullivan is the primary digital producer on the CBC Kids and CBC Kids Olympics websites. A graphic designer by training, she coded her first site in 1997 and has continued to work in digital media ever since. Olena has produced children's content for four Olympics, the PanAm Games and the CBC Kids grade school site. Her goal is to apply a11y best practices to kids digital products and content to make it accessible to kids across Canada.
