Future By Design: The Future of Book Design

25/04/2016
Attend a FREE live screening and interactive discussion of 'The Future of Book Design', RGD's next Future By Design panel featuring Barbara deWilde, Steven Heller and Abbott Miller.

Date: Monday, April 25, 2016

As long as there are readers, there will be people who judge books by their covers - but what will those covers look like 10 years from now? What does it mean to visualize a concept, theme or idea in today's world of book publishing, and how is this evolving? How are readers' expectations changing with new developments in technology? Join a discussion of traditional and non-traditional book design and how this field continues to shape our cultural landscape and the future of design.

Abbott studied design at the Cooper Union School of Art in NYC. In 1989 he founded the multi-disciplinary studio Design/Writing/Research where, in collaboration with Ellen Lupton, he pioneered the concept of “designer as author,” undertaking projects in which content and form are developed in a symbiotic relationship. He joined Pentagram’s New York office as a partner in 1999. Abbott’s projects are often concerned with the cultural role of design and the public life of the written word. At Pentagram he leads a team designing books, magazines, catalogs, identities, exhibitions and creating editorial projects.
