Jay Wall RGD, Principal and Creative Director at Rally Rally is the 2020 Winner.
The ULTRABOLD Awards Program celebrates emerging designers under 35 who are making an impact on the design community and beyond.
"Jay successfully creates fresh, accessible identities based on modular systems and toolkits to communicate clearly and with impact. His use of typography and vibrant colours almost looks simple, yet does not feel like déjà-vu, which is the mark of superior work," says Audree Lapierre, an ULTRABOLD Judge
As a design entrepreneur, Jay has dedicated his career to advancing social change across Canada and around the world. He has done this by building bridges with other fields and planting seeds for the next generation of designers. Jay works with progressive non-profits, foundations, governments and purpose-driven businesses to amplify their efforts through creative strategy, branding and communication design. He advocates for the role of graphic design in advancing social change by writing articles and speaking at conferences internationally. Jay also engages with the broader design community – especially with emerging designers and aspiring design activists – to share his path and to offer guidance.
Jay donated the $500 cash prize to the RGD to support the Student Awards and programming for emerging designers.
"We’re so pleased with the interest in the first-ever ULTRABOLD Awards. There were so many talented entrants that we announced two more finalists than originally planned. We look forward to continuing to highlight emerging designers and I’m hopeful that an ULTRABOLD Award can become a celebration of all the hard work, both on and off the computer, that goes into early success. Thank you Jay, and all our finalists, for everything you’ve contributed to the industry this far!” says Nicola Hamilton RGD, our President.
The 2021 Awards will open for submissions in April with a July 9 Deadline. Please email if you are interested in becoming a supporter of this program.
