Why am I a designer?
I'm a designer because I've been creative since I could hold a crayon properly, because I love problem-solving, because I enjoy seeing a community form when design is involved in helping promote a product or message, and I'm a designer because I wake up every morning excited for the next challenge.
Why should you hire me?
You should hire me because I'm an artist first, and a worker second – I go into work every day with a fresh set of inspiration from reading articles, challenging myself, and learning from others; work to me is more than just 9-5 and a paycheque. You should also hire me because of my experience of growing up in a small town being surrounded by DIY and community engagement – why I'm such a good problem-solver, self-starter, and approachable and open person. On top of that I'm also well-versed in many areas of digital design, UI/UX, marketing, illustration (and writing as a bonus).
Where do I see myself in 5 years?
I've only been working in the industry for almost two years, but I do already have a lot of goals for myself. In five years I see myself having found an agency that I call home, being more confident in my skills and decisions and applying that to exciting projects for local companies. I also see myself teaching part-time at a college that offers marketing and/or graphic design courses. I also hope to have reached a decent following on my illustration side hustle; offering events for DIY and calligraphy a couple of times a year and selling products at farmers markets and art shows. Aside from the obvious work goals, I also see myself having bought a house near the Prince Edward County to Kingston area with a large property, married, and with two dogs.
Contributions to RGD in 2018
Sadly none in 2018. I was focusing on teaching myself additional skills and molding my design career to find my perfect job.
