The Association of Chartered Industrial Designers of Ontario (ACIDO) is an association of accredited Ontario Industrial Designers, formed to develop and promote the Industrial Design profession within the province.
ACIDO also facilitates interaction within the industrial design community and with other professions. The work of ACIDO supports the strategic brand positioning of the industrial design profession in Ontario.
- With humble beginnings in 1948, the Advertising Design Club of Canada has grown from a small outfit in Toronto to being an internationally recognized organization that is dedicated to encouraging excellence in Canadian advertising and design.
- The Alberta Magazine Publishers Association is a classroom, a forum, a newsletter, an advocate and a united voice for magazine publishers in this province. AMPA supports Alberta magazines through promotion, advancement and practical programs that foster professional development and industry growth.
- The Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario's (ARIDO) mandate is to regulate the interior design profession in Ontario for the betterment of the profession and in the best interests of the public. ARIDO is committed to the betterment of the interior design profession to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public.
- Canadian Association of Professional Image Creators
L'Association Canadienne des Créateurs Professionnels de L'ImageCAPIC is the collective voice and advocate for professional photographers, illustrators and digital artists in Canada. They work hard to maintain industry standards, create a community, fight for copyright protection, and much more. Their work helps all the professionals in the industry, but only members benefit fully.
- The Canadian Public Relations Society is an organization of individuals who practice public relations in Canada and abroad. Members work to maintain the highest standards and to share a uniquely Canadian experience in public relations. CPRS is a federation of 14 Member Societies based in major cities or organized province-wide. CPRS works to advance the professional stature of public relations and regulates its practice for the benefit and protection of the public interest.
RGD is a member of DIAC, a think tank and cross-disciplinary research group. The activities of DIAC promote the strategic value of design and the contribution of designers from all disciplines to economic, social and environmental goals.
Utilizing a holistic perspective, DIAC emphasizes the positive impact that can be achieved through cross-disciplinary collaboration among designers from various disciplines. DIAC Board Members include senior representatives from a variety professional associations in Ontario. Rod Nash RGD and Jean-Pierre Lacroix RGD represent our Association on the DIAC Board.
- Editors Canada promotes professional editing as key in producing effective communication. Their 1,500 members, both salaried and freelance, work with individuals in the corporate, technical, government, not-for-profit and publishing sectors. The association is incorporated federally as a not-for-profit organization and is governed at the national level by an executive council.
- GDC® is Canada’s national certification body for graphic and communication design and, since 1956, has established standards for design professionals, educators, and leaders. Through our certification program, GDC licenses the unique CGDTM certification mark to members whose services meet rigorous, standardized criteria. The CGD certification mark is recognized across Canada as the mark of professional services and ethical business conduct.
- The Graphic Artists Guild's primary purpose is to help their members build successful careers by equipping them with the skills and support needed to compete more effectively in an ever-changing field. Guild members are creative professionals and those studying to become creative professionals. The GAG serve graphic and interactive designers, illustrators, animators, web programmers and developers.
- The International Association of Business Communicators was founded in 1970 and provides a professional network for over 15,000 business communications and marketing professionals in over 80 countries. The Golden Horseshoe Chapter serves members based in southwestern Ontario, including Hamilton, Oakville and Niagara Falls.
- IABC/London is a community and resource committed to investing in their members’ future, supporting career growth and elevating their profession. The organization's priorities serve the breadth of their membership and the needs of their profession. Founded in October 1979, IABC/London encompasses a network of members who work or study communications, marketing, and creative services. IABC/London members represent a diverse range of professional experience, educational background and fields of expertise.
- The International Association of Business Communicators was founded in 1970 and provides a professional network for over 15,000 business communications and marketing professionals in over 80 countries. The Ottawa Chapter allows professionals to network locally in Canada's capital, as well as tap into their large global network.

The Waterloo Chapter allows professionals to network locally in the Kitchener-Waterloo-Guelph region, as well as tap into their large global network.
- ICA is the not-for-profit association for Canadian communication agencies, representing 75%+ of all national advertising. Their mission is to champion commercial creativity, amplify the industry’s economic impact, and to embrace and drive change. ICA promotes higher standards and best practices, and serves as the largest source of information, advice and training for the industry.
As a Professional Member of ico-D, RGD is defined as a "membership-based organisation having national status, the majority of whose members are professional communication designers...and whose objects are to influence and raise standards of communication design."
ico-D is an international voice for design and a Council of independent Member organisations - a global network that shares common issues, commitments and standards. Members create a unified voice for the global design community and drive a high level dialogue on the leading role design plays in society, culture and the economy.
- The Interior Designers of Canada is the professional association for the interior design profession. Founded 1972, the IDC is a national advocacy association that protects the professional standards for more than 3,500 interior designers across Canada. Their industry members represent more than 250 manufacturing and supply companies that support the work and profession of Interior Design.
- Magazines Canada is the national trade association representing Canadian-owned, Canadian-content consumer, cultural, specialty, professional and business media magazines. The association focuses on government affairs, services to the advertising trade, circulation marketing and the development of career skills for and the recognition of excellence among the people who work in Canada’s magazine media.
- PWAC Toronto Chapter is the country’s largest, with about 150 professional writers who provide quality writing and expertise to media, websites, companies, government, agencies and not-for-profit organizations. They serve their members in the GTA with professional development, peer support, networking, writers’ resources, marketing and publicity, member discounts, global recognition and mentorships.
In February 2012, RGD and SDGQ announced a bipartite agreement that will result in the alignment of examination procedures for the accreditation of professional graphic designers.
This partnership, reflecting a shared commitment to achieving the highest professional standards, is a significant step forward for the graphic design industry in Canada. Supported by formalized examination procedures, the agreement will contribute to the evolution of the profession and increase recognition of the vital role designers fulfill in business and the economy.
Together, RGD and Société des designers graphiques du Québec (SDGQ) will expand upon the depth of experience that RGD has achieved since launching its exam for accreditation of graphic designers in 1999.
“The value of certification is inextricable from the diligence applied through the examination process and the degree of oversight provided by a board of peers,” says Lionel Gadoury RGD, President of RGD. “This agreement is a significant step forward, expanding on our commitment to work cooperatively and to implement best practices for accreditation on par with other leading professional bodies, be they in finance, business management, health care, engineering or those of our sister design professions, architecture and interior design.”
With this bipartite agreement, the two organizations will focus first on areas where they are already closely aligned in examination procedures, i.e., requirements related to years of education, work experience and approaches for assessing portfolio case studies. RGD and SDGQ are also working on a French equivalent to the mandatory Rules of Professional Conduct portion of RGD’s written exam. This is seen as a first step towards identifying French exam questions and texts leading to a full written exam within five years.
Upon successfully passing the RGD exam, a professional Member becomes a “Registered Graphic Designer”, licensed to display the post nominal letters RGD alongside their name. Within Quebec, SDGQ awards the designation “Designer graphique agréé” or D.G.A. as the French equivalent.
