After careful consideration of the different designations offered by graphic design associations across the globe, including Registered Graphic Designers (R.G.D.), the Société des designers graphiques du Québec (SDGQ) has created a new certification that is the french equivalent of R.G.D..

The Designer Graphique Agréé (DGA) designation was recently awarded to the first group of 28 applicants, who can now add D.G.A. to their names.

“Our goal is to reach for the highest level of excellence and recognize the best practices in our section of the industry,” says Philippe Lamarre, President of the SDGQ. “We hope that the DGA title will contribute to better recognition of graphic designers’ expertise and enhance the status of visual communication as a profession.”

Over the last year, the SDGQ and the Association of Registered Graphic Designers have joined efforts towards the common goal of promoting excellence in the field of graphic design. An objective of the new DGA designation is to align the certification process with that of RGD so that both organizations share the same standards for evaluating candidates.

The next evaluation of DGAs will take place before the end of the year 2012.
