Educators consider transformation at third annual Design Educators Conference
04/01/16

In partnership with George Brown College, RGD welcomed educators from around the world to discuss the future of design education following  DesignThinkers in Toronto.

“Design and design education are under tremendous changes in the 21st century. In this time of major transformation inspired by new technologies and social influences, it is crucial that designers and design educators share their knowledge and experience in a sustainable way with their community of practice. This can only occur through continuous networking, connection and engagement with both like-minded scholars and researchers in the field of design, and related disciplines.” Bahar Mousavi Hejazi, Acting Chair at George Brown College School of Design

This year's conference welcomed over 100 delegates, including presenters from 6 countries.

The opening keynote for the Conference was presented by Manuel Lima, Founder of VisualComplexity.com, Design Lead at Codecademy, author, lecturer and researcher who specializes in mapping complex networks and visualization of information. Manuel explored the past 10 years of Visualcomplexity.com, the project that kicked off the idea for his two books.

Breakout sessions explored teaching strategies, communication tactics and learning opportunities under the theme of transformation. Discussion topics were presented by speakers from Alberta College of Art + Design, CETYS University, Educadigital Institute, Emily Carr University of Art + Design, George Brown College School of Design, Greenside Design Center College of Design, Humber College, Pier 8 Group, Rochester Institute of Technology, Schulich School of Business, Sheridan College, State University of New York at Oswego, OCAD University, Virginia Commonwealth University, VCUarts, and Yaşar University.
