Adeleke Aladekoba RGD, Founder/Creative Director of Weedo Creative Company in Nigeria

Weedo is a creative solutions company that offers services to businesses& individuals in graphic design, creative consulting, idea generation, brand development, corporate identity design, package design, digital media solutions, photography and video production. With over 12 years of experience, Adeleke has executed projects with clients from varied fields, including The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria on Millennium Development Goals, Rite Foods Limited, The NOW Show, Wedding Planner Magazine, Alaro City, Merit Abode Nigeria Ltd and Grand Square Supermarket.


What advice would you give to a student who is considering entering and specifically entering in this category:

You are at the vanguard, the custodians of the dreams of brands who need packaging to express themselves to the markets they serve. Your design is more than a design – it’s an answer to the pressing need of the client on the one hand and on the other hand, it will be an unforgettable experience for the customers who buy the product you have designed. Do your best. You got this!


Mark Buchner RGD, Partner, Creative Director at TBD Studio in Toronto, ON

With over 20 years experience building brands both large and small, Mark has helped develop award-winning brands, products and campaigns for a wide range of clients including Honda, Labatt, Bell, LCBO and Great Gulf as well as designing several anniversary cards for his wife.

What will you be personally looking for from the entrants?

I’m looking forward to seeing design that takes into account the audience and doesn’t overly rely on trends. I also love seeing attention given to even the smallest of details, whether that’s a stylized barcode or just well typeset informational copy. And bonus points if there’s a clear strategy for incorporating both English and French on the package.


Amanda DeVries RGD, Owner of Eye Candy Design in Southwestern Ontario

Amanda has been an independent brand consultant and graphic designer for 15 years, recently specializing in branding and packaging for food & beverage companies. She has spent 10 years in Ottawa, where governmental agencies kept her busy but not terribly inspired. Moving to Southwestern Ontario in 2009 presented her with the opportunity to work with small businesses and real people. She has also been a prop stylist on two cookbooks, thereby checking off items on her bucket list.


What will you be personally looking for from the entrants to identify winning work?

Packaging design involves fanatical attention to details, combined with an imagination that can stretch the limitations of the format. When considering submitted work, I will be looking for the project that gives the customer an experience that aligns seamlessly with the brand, while still "popping" off the shelf.



Tanya Duffy, Creative Director & Principal of The Details Design and Branding in Fredericton, NB

Tanya specializes in strategy, print and web design, art direction andbranding. In 2014, she launched The Details, a full-service creative studio. The Details now has a team of designers and strategists working with clients both locally and nationally. Tanya focuses on helping clients elevate their brands through smart design and gravitates towards projects that are good for New Brunswick. Tanya is a graduate of Emily Carr's Communication Design program and the N.B. College of Craft and Design. 


What will you be personally looking for from the entrants to identify winning work?
Consistency in design choices, thoughtful layouts and originality. Projects that consider the big picture and overarching concepts, as well as the small details and nuances.
