What makes this video store different from the now-defunct big box rentals and algorithm-powered online services is its personality. I suggested bringing back an old tag line, "Recommended by friends," and making that the cornerstone of the new identity. With 50s fonts, colours and forms, tragedy/comedy faces that also say "conversation," and classic movie theatre curtains — all forming a 16:9 widescreen ratio — this logo conveys Thomas' warm, friendly vibe. This logo was a 2013/14 finalist for Ontario Redgees Awards.

Company description
Gareth Lind founded Lind Design in 1993. He specializes in graphic design for cultural and environmental organizations, co‑operatives, book publishers and the public sector.
Why am I an RGD?
When RGD started in 1996, I lept at the opportunity to support an association for what was a relatively solitary profession. I've always believed in the value of community, and RGD has been critical in giving graphic designers a voice and a shared resource.
Why am I a designer?
Back when I was a teenager living in Toronto, my proficiency for drawing cartoons for a repertory cinema guide landed me an apprenticeship as a graphic designer. Now, 30 years later, that’s my main gig. Communication with words and images is my passion, whatever the medium.
Why should you hire me?
Form should follow function, not the other way around. With an emphasis on typographic excellence and editorial clarity, I cut through the clutter to deliver messages with stylish impact.
